Charcoal Brushes Set #2 was created because I wanted Photoshop brushes that felt less digital and more like working with real traditional media.
Each brush has been carefully designed with its own combination of irregular brush shapes, natural texture, pressure sensitivity and organic variation. The result is a collection of brushes that respond beautifully to your hand and create broken, unpredictable marks without that obvious repeating-pattern look that can make digital brushes feel... well, digital!
This set includes a range of charcoal behaviours, from delicate dry detail and expressive line work to broad side strokes, soft dusty charcoal, rich compressed marks, broken textures and brushes designed for building larger areas of tone and atmosphere.
And these aren't just for traditional charcoal drawings.
I use these brushes throughout my own digital artwork to draw details, create texture, build painterly backgrounds, add foliage and atmosphere, break up edges, shade clothing and introduce beautiful organic imperfections into photographic artwork. The background in the example artwork shown here was painted using brushes from this set on a high-resolution photographic file.
