Painterly Realism Series — A Three-Project Masterclass
Oh là là… this course is pure creative joy.
Designed for artists who want to deepen their painting skills without feeling overwhelmed, this in-depth three-lesson series walks you through the complete process of transforming simple reference images into rich, painterly works of art. Each project focuses on different subjects, techniques, and levels of detail — giving you a well-rounded skill set you can apply to virtually any future artwork.
You’ll learn how to build paintings from the ground up using trace layers, thoughtful blocking, careful blending, texture-building brushes, and the powerful use of light and shadow. Throughout the course, we focus on developing realism while maintaining a beautiful painterly finish.
From whimsical character work to dramatic Old Master–style still life, and finally to a highly detailed realism study complete with a behind-the-scenes photoshoot, this series will expand both your technical ability and your creative confidence.
By the end of this course, you won’t just have three finished artworks — you’ll have a deeper understanding of how to see, interpret, and paint almost any subject.
✧ Lesson 1 — Easter Bunny
Create an irresistibly charming painterly character from scratch. You’ll build your own trace layer, block in forms, blend shapes, and learn specialized brush techniques to achieve soft fur texture and depth. Dodging and burning are used extensively to sculpt light and dimension, bringing the bunny to life.
Incorporate your own PNG elements to complete a cohesive, story-driven piece.
✧ Lesson 2 — The Pear
Step into the world of classical still life. In this lesson, you’ll recreate a dramatic Old Masters–inspired painting, focusing on form, lighting, atmosphere, and subtle color transitions. Once mastered, these techniques can be applied to any still life subject — fruit, objects, florals, or beyond.
✧ Lesson 3 — Coffee Creamer
This advanced lesson takes you from capture to canvas. First, you’ll go behind the scenes of the photoshoot to learn how to style and photograph your own reference images. Then we carefully construct a highly detailed painting, working methodically through highlights, shadows, textures, and fine realism.
This project is more intricate and time-intensive — but incredibly rewarding.
